During the lockdown, a group of our Grade 11 learners undertook a heartfelt initiative to raise funds for those less fortunate in our community.
Their idea was to purchase food vouchers and distribute them to underprivileged communities in need of assistance. One of the individuals identified was a remarkable woman named Dudu, who cooked daily meals for about 80 children in the Mgungundlovu community. These children, many of whom were raised by their grandparents or came from child-headed homes, had no income or means to buy food. For most of them, this was their only meal of the day.
Dudu became one of the unsung heroes of the pandemic, and our learners worked tirelessly to support her efforts during this challenging time.
Looking ahead, Oakridge College remains committed to fostering a spirit of community and social responsibility among our learners. Future projects will aim to address ongoing needs in our local communities, including supporting education, food security, and sustainable initiatives that empower vulnerable groups.
